Well in the old days where the world was violent and hardly anything was there to eat, kids grew up fast (or risked dying) and you didnt even have to spank them.

Nowdays, kids are all safe and start out assuming the world is just one big Icecream bar... so sometimes a little spanking to show who's boss wont hurt. Kids have been spanked for a long time, and this first generation of kids who didnt get spanked are already showing problems... even the good ones (but hopefully not Miley Cyrus)

 

I just got done reading the What Do You Stand For thread, and it carried a lot of the typical threats. How do you possibly expect not to beat your kids when every person that says something that is simply not agreeing with you gets a threat of physical violence? I can guarantee 100% that if you have kids they will be far more rude, disagreeable, and unlike what I think of most of the people you fight with here-wrong. Isn't it unrealistic to believe that somehow your answer to conflict resolution will somehow change just because you have kids? Suddenly you will be able to stay level headed, you will be able to take criticism, you will LISTEN, you will be able to think rationally about things you don't like, and you won't assume kicking someone's ass is the right thing to do to put them in their place? I think that in all honesty, that is a tall order for you.

I actually didn't threaten anybody once, so you're wrong there. Second, I can't 100% guarantee anything about my future kids because I don't have any, except the fact that you're wrong, again. Third, I do think rationally, whether you choose to think so or not, and thinking rationally has absolutely nothing to do with dealing with people who try and throw anything in your face they possibly can. again, whether you agree or not, I do listen when somebody isn't full of shit, and lastly, I don't go around kicking everybody's ass, I react with violence, when somebody takes their insults and words towards me to a level that calls for it and is provoking it.

You got a problem with the way I deal with people starting shit with me? take it up with everybody I know too, cus they are all the same way, and they are all 1,000 times better than any of the people who start shit with me on here.

Getting a lot of varied responces... I guess there's no right answer, just a matter of how you want to approach discipline in your household.

 

the biggest thing to remember, is that there is a huge difference between discipline, and abuse. discipline, is a system, carried out consistently, while abuse is due to bad parenting, laziness, anger issues, etc.

 

When I'm only paying half attention, I keep seeing the title of this thread in the the menu as 'smoking your kids.'

I have a job that allows me to watch many familys with kids do their shopping.. There seems to be more and more children that are not being taught disipline. No I do not say that spanking is the leading way of teaching, but there are times.. when it is neaded.

I grew up in a loving farm family, we learned early to do our share, and not to cause problems for the others. Household chores were part of our day. To sass mom was a no-no, and the poor peach tree by the back porch lost another branch placed well in our disipline stage. I remember only about 3 paddlings in my first 16 years. I sure earned more.

My brothers kids seem to do ok with out paddling, very well mannered and respectful of those around them.. But when I am not around???

And like most things there is a right time and a wrong time...

It depends on your own household. When I was punished, I definatly know about my fathers 4 inch thick belt with a texas sized buckle on it. The whole time out ordeal is in my opinion complete bullshit.

Youll get your point across with a quick hit with a hand, a shoe or somthing to the persons backside than sending them to a room, taking stuff away or putting them in the corner. I know for myself after a few times messing up I didnt ever want to get in trouble cause i knew what would happen. As a older gentleman once told me there were only two people in this world he would ever fear, His Mother and Father.

Theres a diffrence between abuse and punishment. Knowing which is the key. Dont listen to the media most of this country is becoming for a later of a better word pussies. You punish your child everyone claims abuse, dont do this, dont to that, child protection this. Unless your child is bleeding, with bruises and broken bones, then you can claim somthing, but a few whacks, and stern language, come on now what else are you supposed to do when someone gets out of line serve them cold mild and cookies? If that was the case id do it on purpose

 

I do not beleive in spanking.I was never spanked as a child there are outher ways to disapline a child.Time outs and takeing things from them that they enjoy to play with or things they like to do.There are so many things you can do to disapline a child without ever laying a hand on them.:rose:

I feel that it's necessary some times...Nothing catches a kids attention faster than a swat...although you never want to do it too much, just threaten most of the time...they'll get the point, I did.
